Check out the Authors Guild
Yesterday I went to an event called Emerging Writers Happy Hour at Powerhouse Arena in DUMBO.
The event was a joint venture between the Author's Guild and Electric Literature. It was mainly a way for the Authors Guild to plug their new Emerging Writer membership, a membership tier meant to provide new writers at the early stages in their career with resources and a community on the publishing and business side of things.
I'll have to admit that I was a little nervous going to a networking event solo, but thankfully I quickly found a lost-looking writer who also needed someone to talk to.
It was cool to go to such an event and meet other writers in the same stage in their careers as me. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to join the guild just yet but it looks like a valuable resource to check out one day.
That's one huge perk of living in Brooklyn: no shortage of literary events!
