Throwback Thursday: The Star Wars Holiday Special

Thanksgiving is still a week away, but I'm already listening to Christmas music (with headphones, of course, because Katelyn won't tolerate it until November 25).

However, something happened on this day in history, November 17, 1978, that we need to talk about: The Star Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS.

This special, which I admit I have never seen, is something of a legend in Star Wars mythology. It's notoriously maligned, and is unavailable on home video and has never been re-broadcast. For these reasons, it enjoyed something of a "Holy Grail"-like status. Until YouTube came along, that is.

That's right...thanks to YouTube user TheSWHolidaySpecial, who created an account for this reason alone apparently, you can now watch this special in its entirety right here:

In it, all of your favorite characters from the original trilogy, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and R2-D2 and C-3PO, celebrate something called Life Day, visit Kashyyk, the Wookie home planet (it's first appearance in the Star Wars universe!) and just skimming through this video, there's a wookie in an apron baking something which I think is Chewbacca's wife? So, you know, there's that.

The fact that Kashyyk is first mentioned here makes it canon though, so sorry everyone, it's here to stay. I know I for one am moving this to the top of my holiday watching list this year.
