2016 Hugo Award Winners Announced!
The 2016 Hugo awards were announced today, and while I think The Martian has been just a tad over-celebrated, I'm thrilled to see that the final episode of Jessica Jones, "AKA Smile," won Best Short Form Dramatic presentation.
I'm also particularly intrigued by The Fifth Season, the N.K. Jemisin novel, every since I heard about it on my favorite podcast, Judge John Hodgman.
It's the first chapter in a new fantasy trilogy, and it sounds pretty awesome. Here is the mysterious description:
"THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS... FOR THE LAST TIME.
A season of endings has begun.
It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun.
It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter.
It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester.
This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy."
Sounds like a book has just been moved to the top of my to-read shelf...
